My buddy asked me if he could try out my D800 the other day and said he was going out to shoot some motocross. Being a huge fan of motocross and not covering any races lately I was quick to say hell yeah! I used to photograph several races in the past, but it has been way too long since I have set foot on a track. I was back into my old routine looking for the best place to create great images and not get run over at the same time. The day was very grey which was both good and bad, with no sun there were no shadows, however there was a bit too little light and that did limit my shutter speed. However the Nikon D4 is amazing and the auto ISO feature makes up for just about any problems I encountered. The D4 has an amazing 10fps and I did use it several times, however I find way too often I don’t need the images that get captured after the first image, so many of the extra images get trashed immediately.
My buddy that wanted to try the D800 out said it was a much improved step up from his D300s and he loved it. He shoots many advertisement for downhill mountain bike products and the D800 is very suited for his style of photography. His setup is quite different from mine so he had to learn as he used the camera which took a few extra minutes, but his overall impression was very good. I am not sure if this will be his next camera, but at least he didn’t have to purchase or rent one to decide if he was willing to make the investment.
So after shooting for a day at the motocross track I have to say I will be back at the track soon, here are some of my favorite images.
