I have photographed many Jet Ski races for magazines and websites in my years and it is a favorite of mine, especially since I myself used to race the stock and limited class in region 10 until my body gave up on me. Because I raced jet skis I was better able to understand when and where the action would happen and what was happening from the racers perspective. This allowed me to photograph some images just as things were happening, rather than turning to that point after the action was gone. Jet Ski racing isn’t near as popular as it once was, but it’s very exciting to watch. If you ever get a chance to see one in person, you will be glad you took the time to watch.
Jet Ski Freestyle is awesome and you will not believe your eyes when you see someone complete a barrel roll or a back flip. These guys defy gravity and make it look easy. I have had the pleasure of photographing many freestyle jet ski events , some of those images even made the cover of JetSports Magazine. I think the freestyle portion of the events are a crowd favorite, generally the stands are packed at that time.
Here is a collection of my favorite images.
